A Year in Provence - Peter Mayle

Picking this up was at the suggestion of Martha after we'd just had a vacation in southern France. It's told by an Englishman who moves with his wife to Provence and follows them through the trials of home renovation and quirky personalities of neighbors, contractors, friends and shopkeepers unique to the country and region. It truly captured the rural bucolic images we'd experienced, the exquisite French expertise and devotion to food and the intimate charm and history of the small town and villages. I'd highly recommend visiting Provence, but if you can't this book offers an entertaining glimpse of one of the most beautiful parts of Europe.
